Biography
The interviewee was born in Maulden with her twin sister, on 5 November 1932. She attended Christian Endeavour (non-conformist children's club) which was run by her uncle, and the Sunday school. Mother did hat-making at home, as an outworker for a firm in Luton. Her father was a carpenter, working with his brother at Clophill, making coffins. She then attended Maulden High School and then to Luton High School. She disliked school and left before "O" Levels, to work at E. P. Roses (a department store in Bedford). When war broke, her older brother was a volunteer in the Fleet Air Arm working on aircraft carriers. Her father was in the Home Guard. She got married at 18 in 1951.
